What is Calendula Hydrosol?
Calendula officinalis is a flowering plant that belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae). Calendula has long been used as a medicinal plant, and its anti-inflammatory properties make it useful when applied externally to the skin (more on that in a minute).
Calendula, pronounced kuh-len-juh-luh, is named after the Latin word kalendae, meaning new moon or first day of the month. It is believed that the vivid yellow and orange perennial blooms exclusively on the first of the month.
Calendula hydrosol should always be in your first aid kit or medicine cabinet. It is made from the flowering tops of Calendula officinalis, a plant that has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times.
How can Calendula Hydrosol be used in a skin care product?
You may have heard of hydrosols; maybe not. Hydrosols, which are produced from the aromatic residues of the plant steam distillation process, contain properties similar to essential oils, but are less concentrated.
You certainly enjoy flowers in your yard, in a vintage vase, or even in your hair, but did you know that some flowers are also good for your skin? These beautiful plants have many beneficial properties that can help relax, moisturize, tighten and protect your skin.
What's our latest favorite? Marigold, often known as calendula, is a flower that grows in a pot. So how can this beautiful flower keep your skin looking healthy, radiant and youthful?
Hydrolates are products of water-based steam distillation. They are created during the distillation of essential oils from herbs and are sometimes called hydrosols or flower waters. Hydrolate therapy is part of both phytotherapy and aromatherapy. Hydrolates work on a different principle than essential oils, as some of their components are hydrophilic, i.e. soluble in water. These components are preserved only in hydrolates, not in essential oils. Hydrolates also contain more organic acids, which are attributed an anti-inflammatory effect. Hydrolates are acidic and therefore prevent bacterial growth.
Wellness and cosmetics
Hydrolats will serve you as a great skin tonic, the choice is wide - according to skin type. They are also suitable for the production of cosmetics - clay masks, creams, soaps. Hydrosols can also be used as a steam bath to clean the skin - as a poultice for tired eyes or after a hard day's work, you can spray the hydrosol on the body to relieve stress and refresh the body.
Creating an atmosphere
Hydrolates do not always have the same smell as the essential oil from a particular herb, but they can also be used to aromatize lamps or simply be sprayed into the room.
Care of infants and young children
Hydrolates are a great helper in the care of the skin of infants and small children. They are very gentle and gentle.
External use
Hydrolates can also be used as warm and cold compresses, foot baths, sitz baths. Alternatively, we apply the hydrolat with a sprayer directly to the affected area.
